Our STEM week began with a Zoom meeting with Hazel Hooper, who discussed with the children her role in the Borneo rainforest.  As part of her role she was involved with developing the infrastructure used by scientists and BBC broadcasters who were working from the rainforest.  She showed the children her difficult journey to the base, her very basic living conditions, and how her and the team built a bridge across the river.  She then took (many!) questions from the children.

Following this, the children had a face to face meeting with Mr Oliver who is a draughtsman.  He discussed his role in the design and construction process, also answering (many!) questions.

Finally, the children investigated and created moving models with the LEGO team.  They had to follow the detailed instructions and work as part of a team.  During their spare time at the end of the session, the children replicated the Borneo rainforest, and the bridge!

Over the course of the week, the children brought their knowledge together to think about how the Borneo base could be improved for the scientists etc taking into account the location and resources available.
