Y1 - Forest School

Forest School has made it possible to explore the outdoors, while the children develop in cross-curricular objectives with maths, science, and even geography. Here, the year ones take part in adventurous activity challenges both individually and within a team. Whether it be building shelters or creating makeshift slope structures, the children are having fun with the endless possibilities of outdoor learning.

The Daily Mile:

The aim of The Daily Mile is to improve the physical, social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children – regardless of age, ability or red miles are ran collectively across school each week. Parents and staff are also encouraged to join in.

Its impact can be transformational – improving not only the children’s fitness, but also their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing.

So far almost half of the pupils of Shirley Manor have taken part in The Daily Mile, and over a hundred miles a week are being ran at the school each week! We are really proud to take part in The Daily Mile at Shirley Manor.

Year 6 Swimming achievements

76% of children can:

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • Use a range of strokes effectively
  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

Some children who are currently in Year 6 did not attend Shirley Manor when the rest of the class went swimming in Year 4. We therefore can not confirm whether they can swim or not.
